Late Tax Returns

Overdue Tax Returns

There may be a number of reasons why you have a late tax return, why you didn’t file a tax return last year or for multiple years.  There are often good reasons for missing the date.

Our team have experience in preparing tax returns for multiple outstanding years, so if you’re behind with one or more years of tax returns don’t hesitate to contact us. The sooner you get on top of your obligations to the Australian Tax Office the better. We can liaise with the ATO on your behalf and remove any stress and anxiety you may be feeling about dealing with the consequences of a late tax return.

We can help new clients get up to date with multiple late returns.  One of the immediate outcomes is that peace of mind can be restored when one’s financial affairs are in order.  In addition, you may be due a tax refund and the sooner you receive this the better.

Tax returns cover the financial year which ends on 30th June, and if you’re lodging your own tax return it is due by 31 October.

Registered Tax Agents
If you’re lodging your return through a tax agent such as Peter Vickers Business Group, you generally have an extension on this date.  When people get behind with their tax returns it can cause a significant amount of stress, in which case it can be sensible to appoint a registered tax agent to assist in preparing your overdue tax returns and liaising with the ATO on your behalf.

If you’re concerned about lodging outstanding tax returns, talk to us.

Will I be fined for filing my tax returns late?
Not necessarily.  The sooner you take action the better and we may be able to help you avoid the Failure to Lodge on Time (FLT) penalty.

What happens if I can’t find all of my records?
As a registered tax agent, Peter Vickers Business Group has access to the tax agent portal and can access your tax records for you.  We can also obtain a Pre-filling report from the ATO on your behalf.  This report includes the data that the ATO has collected about your income from your employer, your bank and your investments.

Using a tax agent means your returns will be lodged accurately, quicker and refunds will be paid sooner. We can also help manage your financial situation going forward and help you achieve your long term goals.

An overdue tax return won’t go away so act now. Call us to discuss your situation or send us a message.
